Stussy - “Strictly Business”

Hailed from Long Island, New York. Hip-hop act EPMD has been active for the last 20 years, first with its debut album Strictly Business, which hit #1 on Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop Chart back in 1988. Comprised of Erick Sermon and Parrish Smith, EPMD (which stands for “Erick & Parrish Making Dollars”), unlike most hip-hop artists at the time, sampled funk & heavy rock beats instead. Thus, created a shift towards the hip-hop we know today.

On August 25th, the duo was invited as headliner at the S.L.A.T.E. trade show premiere party in Las Vegas. As a commemoration, Stussy created a series of limited graphic t-shirts for the event. Now, the same tees are available through Stussy’s online store, Stussy Direct. Printed front with photo of the duo at their start, and back with collaborators logos, on either black or white cotton jersey. Also, be on the look out for EPMD’s forthcoming album, We Mean Business, on October 7th.

OCTOGLOWS

By day, the OctoGlows could be mistaken for just another pair of classic white Adidas sneakers. But once the lights go out, a glowing octopus surfaces, as if from the depths of a dark ocean. Its brilliant blue arms meander across the surface of the shoe, seemingly with no end. Prepare to get noticed when you take these octopi out for a night on the town

Upper Playground Coming to the East Village

It looks like Asian American pop culture mag Giant Robot is scaling things back and giving up one of its storefronts on east 9th street in Manhattan. The 700 square foot space with limited backyard access and a damp basement, will soon be occupied by San Francisco spawned, art fueled brand Upper Playground. Hailing from the West Coast, they're responsible for pumping out lots of artist designed gear, books, ephemera and have also been instrumental in producing all those limited edition Obamartist prints. Hopefully these guys can make the space at 437 east 9th street work, it seems to have a high turnover rate for the art inclined entrepreneur .

Dr. Dre Says Detox is Coming This Winter

Photobucket

While out making the rounds to promote his new $400 headphones, Dr. Dre is also making renewed promises about Detox.

He tells USA Today:

“I’m just now — over the last couple of months — starting to feel that it’s going to be right and it’s something I can be proud of, and everybody is going to love it,” says Dr. Dre (aka Andre Young). “In a perfect world, I’m shooting for a November or December release.”

All I’m saying is, that album had better be the most flawless musical recording ever conceived. He goes on to say that once it finally drops, we shouldn’t hold our breath for a follow up.

“We have an entirely new thing going with the drums that’s incredible, and we’re still developing that.” All “the usual suspects” will make guest appearances, including Nas, Jay-Z and Lil Wayne.

As long as the wait for the upcoming album has been, Dre says it’ll be even longer before there’s another one. “I’m going to put this record out, promote it, tour and then become a hermit. I’m going to stay in the studio and produce.”

Eminem Returns To The Studio

Photobucket

It’s no secret that Eminem has been avoiding the limelight for some time now. In 2008, he sits four years away from his last solo effort Encore [click to read], and is two years removed from the fatal night that saw the tragic death of his best friend and fellow D12 member Proof.

However, Em may finally be ready for the stage again as Entertainment Weekly caught word from Bishop Lamont [click to read] that Eminem has recently been in the studio, and that he’s heard “some amazing stuff.”

A fellow member of the Aftermath camp, Bishop Lamont has been around Eminem long enough to understand the situation at hand. “He's been quiet too long, and he's got a lot to get off his chest,” stated Lamont, referring to Proof and other incidents that have occurred in the last four years.

Knowing that Eminem faced many struggles and adversities to get to this point though, Lamont appropriately described the process that has manifested within Em. “He went through what he had to go through, and now he's been able to take all the pain and stress and put it out in his music.”

To reiterate Lamont, the label (Aftermath/Shady) also confirmed that Eminem has indeed been in the studio.

Air Jordan 7 (VII) - MirĂ³ - Olympic Collection

Photobucket

Here are some detailed pictures of the Air Jordan 7 (VII) - MirĂ³ - Olympic Collection. We have seen pictures before, but now we know about the story behind them. They are inspired by the colors and the international spirit of the Olympic Games, but it goes even deeper than that. The shoes also draw inspiration from the late Spanish painter and sculptor Joan MirĂ³ who died only months before Michael Jordan and Team USA won Gold in the ‘84 Games. They feature a white base with an array of colors which form what is best described as an artistic pattern. They are slated to release on July 3, 2008 at the Opium store in Barcelona.

According to the L.A. Times, that hoody Kanye was spotted rocking at the Dior show in Paris last week is from his much anticipated Pastelle clothing line. I think that shark fin at the top of the hood is an interesting touch. Click the pic for a closer look.

Kanye Initiating a War with Big Brother?

Photobucket

Is Kanye West taking subliminal shots at big brother Jay Z?

After a series of events taking places this weekend, the relationship between the two artist has raised a cause for concern. Problems surfaced at the U.K. Festival in Glastonbury, as a result of controversy surrounding Jay Z and hip hop headlining the show.

The conflict started on the second day of the three day festival, when singer Amy Winehouse closing her set, stops mid performance and lashed out against Kanye, rumored to originally headline the U.K. main event...

"Are there any black people in the crowd"?, and at this point being taken off stage, she was able to get out, "Let's hear it for Jay-Z. The man has got bollocks to come here, and play the tunes you don't even know you remember. Imagine if it was a cunt like Kanye West. Cunts like Kanye- that should be his next album title".

No comments were reported from Amy or Kanye regarding her statement.

Adding to the friction, prior to Jay Z taking stage to close the show, the arena aired a video playing a message from Noel Gallagher, Oasis band leader saying

"I don't want hip-hop at Glastonbury", followed by , "Jay-Z has got no fucking chance".

Jay walked on the stage and opened by performing a song from the bands (Oasis) catalog as retaliation, and ran through his set and received a standing ovation and acceptance from the audience.

Jay Z responded to Amy's comment towards Kanye:

“I don’t agree with it. [Kanye’s] my brother and the biggest artist on Roc-A-Fella right now. … I guess I should hook them up, because he’s a great guy, too. I don’t know what the problem is. I don’t know where that came from.”

According to sources, in normal Kanye fashion, he threw a fit after hearing Jay's comment in response to Amy's outburst. Insiders revealed Kanye felt Jay could have said a lot more than he did.

The latest actions could be signs of trouble to come in the dynasty. On his personal blog, where Kanye keeps fans updated on his life, had the following to say:

" NAS IS THE GREATEST RAPPER OF ALL TIME".....

Wow!!!! Not sure how that will sit with the boss, but we will keep you updated. So did Kanye spark a little flame to the ego of Jay? Automatically this came to mind......

That ether, that shit that make your soul burn slow

Jay-Z Speaks on Amy Winehouse’ Comments About Kanye

Photobucket

MTV caught up with Jay-Z to get some of his thoughts on Glastonbury and he also commented on what Amy Winehouse had to say about

However, when it came to fellow Glastonbury performer Amy Winehouse’s dis towards Jay’s friend Kanye West, the Jiggaman quipped he wanted to make peace.

“She said something about Kanye late on but I didn’t hear it,” he said. “I don’t agree with it. He’s my brother and the biggest artist on Roc-A-Fella right now. … I guess I should hook them up because he’s a great guy, too. I don’t know what the problem is. I don’t know where that came from.”

Jay-Z Live at Glastonbury

Heres Jigga’s grand opening performance live at Glastonbury. I like what he did here, smart move on Jay’s part. Even if the band (he took the song from) dissed hip hop (Definitely Maybe some ignorance on their part). At the end of the day, this is entertainment…and this culture transcends boundaries (race, gender, nationalities etc). No need for a (Jay-Z) rebuttal and the start of a genre war over generalized, biased opinions. Let them keep hating while he keeps caking. It doesnt matter how many Shock(s) Of Lightning those unearthed comments you, Noel Gallagher, continue to Dig Out Your Soul from, but i dont know if you noticed…hip-hop will Be Here Now until the end of time.
